Around Brynderwen

We are located near the Brecon Beacons, which provides a whole range of activities for our visitors and an ideal location for hikers, hackers and mountain bikers.  Within an hour’s drive are several beaches including Pendine Sands, Oxwich Bay and Worm’s Head. If you are a bit of an adventurer or like your history, we are close by to several castles and even a gold mine! If you prefer the quiet life you will be pleased to know we are located in a secluded spot with a bright night sky, ideal for stargazing.

There is something for everyone here and more details of locations can be found in the guest information booklet or ask a member of the team.

Secluded Forests

Want a nice place for a walk with the dogs and possibly stop for a Barbecue? The local forests have picturesque picnic areas for alfresco lunches. The photo on the right is from an afternoon out at one of our local forests, which has guided walks through the woods up to the Nant y Rhaeadr waterfalls

Mountain Biking

We are keen cyclists and regularly escape. There are adventures straight out the door for road or mountain bikers, local trails, bike parks or full off-piste adventures.

To shortlist some of my favourite places to ride, have a look at Brecfa, Cym Ryeaeder, Bike Park Wales, or pick up an Os map and try some of the famous Brecons trails (The Gap).

Hiking

Located near to the Brecon Beacons, with a public footpath that runs from Brynderwen, we are well positioned for Hikers and Walkers. The local views can be stunning and the local wildlife makes it perfect for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watching.  The photo on the left is from the top of the Brecon Beacons with a picture panel guided hour long walk around the old Black Mountain lime quarry.

Dinefwr Castle overlooks the River Tywi near the town of Llandeilo, which is also a short 15 min journey. Other places of interest on our door step include Carreg Cennen Castle, Talley Abbey and Dryslwyn Castle. Check with us or in the Guest Booklet for more information.

Beaches

Brynderwen is sat in stunning green valleys, but beaches are easily reachable. We have many favourites but a few that stand out for being dog and activity packed have to be  Pendine Sands or Oxwich Bay. Pendine for its massive open flat sands and Oxwich for being picturesque  and having a very nice restaurant. The bay also offers rented equipment or even lessons for various water sports including paddle boarding and sailing.

Stargazing

Something I overlooked moving here is the amazing night skies. The entire Brecon Beacons National Park is an International Dark Sky Reserve. This makes it the perfect place to stargaze. Viewing from the Black Mountain with such low light pollution makes gazing ideal. At Brynderwen on a clear night, I couldn’t guess how much you can see by eye alone.  You are more than welcome to set up anywhere on-site and enjoy the skies for yourself.

Check out the Cambrian Mountains

and  Brecon Beacons for more information.
